Digital Inpainting Based on the Mumford-shah-euler Image Model

چکیده
Image inpainting is an image restoration problem, in which image models play a critical role, as demonstrated by Chan, Kang and Shen’s recent inpainting schemes based on the bounded variation [10] and the elastica [9] image models. In the present paper, we propose two novel inpainting models based on the MumfordShah image model [37], and its high order correction — the Mumford-Shah-Euler image model. We also present their efficient numerical realization based on the -convergence approximations of Ambrosio and Tortorelli [1, 2], and De Giorgi [18].

The Mumford-Shah digital filter pair (MS-DFP) and applications
We present a novel coupled £lter pair for denoising, segmentation, and inpainting, based on the well known MumfordShah image model. Our self-contained digital extension to a general graph domain makes it possible to cheaply and universally bene£t from this conventionally expensive yet very powerful image model.

As a region-based (global) approach, the Mumford and Shah (MS) model is a powerful and robust segmentation technique as compared to edge-based (local) methods. In this thesis we apply the MS model t...
متن کاملColor Image Restoration Using Nonlocal Mumford-Shah Regularizers
We introduce several color image restoration algorithms based on the Mumford-Shah model and nonlocal image information. The standard Ambrosio-Tortorelli and Shah models are defined to work in a small local neighborhood, which are sufficient to denoise smooth regions with sharp boundaries. However, textures are not local in nature and require semi-local/non-local information to be denoised effic...
متن کاملMathematical Models for Local Nontexture Inpaintings
Abstract. Inspired by the recent work of Bertalmio et al. on digital inpaintings [SIGGRAPH 2000], we develop general mathematical models for local inpaintings of nontexture images. On smooth regions, inpaintings are connected to the harmonic and biharmonic extensions, and inpainting orders are analyzed. For inpaintings involving the recovery of edges, we study a variational model that is closel...
